TGS Engineers provided Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) services for the NCDOT Shelby Bypass (TIP R-2707) project in Shelby, North Carolina. This 18.5-mile four-lane divided highway was designed to improve traffic flow around the City of Shelby via a controlled-access route. The project began in 2014 and was completed in phases.
In R-2707A/B, the work focused on grading, paving, and constructing 13 bridges from US 74 to NC 226. The next phase, R-2707C, involved major grading and structures from east of NC 226 to west of NC 150, northeast of Shelby. This section included 11 bridges and approximately 3 million cubic yards of excavation, with an estimated cost of $59 million.
