This TIP project (R-5705B) involved the planning and design for bypass options around the Town of Angier. NCDOT proposed to improve the NC 55 Corridor from south of SR 1532 (Oak Grove Church Road) in Harnett County to NC 42 in Wake County. Improvements included widening to multi-lanes, partly on new location. The project had a positive overall impact by reducing traffic congestion and improving mobility along NC 55.
R-5705 was divided into three segments. TGS prepared final construction plans for R-5705B while working in concert with the firm designing R-5705A. Segment B involved the improvement of NC 55 from NC 210 to SR 4809 (Jicarilla Lane), with part of the alignment on new location. TGS prepared SEPA and State FONSI documents. The proposed typical section included a multi-lane section with a raised median, variable-width median to accommodate wide outside lanes, and sidewalks in urban areas. The preferred alternative was approximately 10 miles long.
