STIP R-3830 involves widening approximately 5.4 miles of NC 42/SR 1579 (Broadway Road & N. Main Street) from Horner Boulevard in Sanford to west of SR 1538 (East Harrington Avenue) in Broadway, NC. Approximately one-half of the existing roadway will be widened to a 4-lane, median-divided, curb and gutter facility with added turn-lanes, bike-lanes, and sidewalks. The remainder of the existing roadway will be widened to a 3-lane, undivided facility with a mixture of curb and gutter and shoulder typical sections.
This project also includes accommodating the addition of the new $40M Lee County Athletic Park near the intersection of the US 421 Bypass and NC 42. Currently under construction with an estimated completion date of May 2028.
