Emergency Design-Build

This $3.2M turn-key design-build bridge replacement project in Caldwell County focused on replacing the structure built in 1949 located in Granite Falls, NC. Serving SR 1107 (Falls Avenue) over Old Mill Pond/Gunpowder Creek between US 321 and SR 1754, the scope of work was standard for a bridge replacement project. On an accelerated schedule following the collapse in May 2017, the replacement of bridge #262 involved a detour for more than six (6) miles. Setbacks included occasional flooding of the privately-owned pond and a tornado in the area during the forming phase. This Old Mill Pond bridge project let February 2017 and construction which began mid-June 2017 was completed for vehicular traffic before the deadline of December 2017. The final surface was installed during normal traffic flows and the entire project was completed in May of 2018.
