Reid to North Kannapolis

This project, part of the NCDOT Piedmont Improvement Program (PIP), involved adding a second mainline and 4.4-miles of new track alignment from Reid to North Kannapolis on part of the busiest rail corridor in North Carolina. The challenge on this project was to provide an alignment that reduced the impacts to property owners and utilities through the China Grove Historic District, while maximizing safety, efficiency, and mobility for the public and railroad on an aggressive schedule to meet funding requirements.
